Christmas in July…

As promised in last nights post….Welcome to our month of Christmas in the middle of summer! We’ve planned inspiration, recipes, ways to organize the holiday, crafts, traditions and more, and we’re so happy you’re here!  And because things are always better with friends, here are some of the wonderful ladies that will be joining us with their wisdom this month:

Loretta @ Dancing On The Dash

Debi @Under The Date Palm Tree

Lani@ All This Crazy Grace

Nancy@ Words From The Homefront

Now, because I love stories and the power that they can hold… let’s begin this adventure with one, shall we?

In the grocery store, I watched something that made my heart sing and my spirit ponder. Can I tell you this Christmas story again?. . .

…They were fragile. Paper thin, walking slow, and yet they carried an air of wise, and sweet. The tiny cart held bread, milk, and a small container of  soap. All of this I observed from my vantage point behind the skids of soup: two for a dollar.

“I can’t have this any more” he’s muttering sad, as he puts down a package of shortbread cookies.

They’re the thin kind, the Dutch style that always come in tins for Christmas. She let’s go of his hand and reaches for the discarded tin. It shakes a bit while she explains;

“Yes, yes you can. Just not all the time. The doctor says it’s fine once in a while… for a treat”

He smiles. She pats his arm, and the tin finds a place next to the soap. Hand in hand they make their way ever so slowly towards the checkout, and he’s saying… “maybe with tea when we get home.” Her reply makes them laugh, and even though I can’t hear them any more, I watch until they’re out of sight.
I pick up soup and marvel at her. So many years. Every bit of energy she has seems to be focused on putting one foot in front of the other, and still she encourages, champions and loves.

I want to be like that.
I want to walk alongside others, despite my own challenges and encourage, champion and love.
And isn’t that what this celebration is all about?
Isn’t that what happened when a baby came?  When Mary wondered how things were going to work… she walked with Elizabeth… in  Hope
“At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.  When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”Luke 1:39
And Angels! Angels came to tired, scared shepherds with Peace and Joy
“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” Luke 2:8
And God…He handed us the greatest gift. Wrapped in Loveso much love!
He comes to us. Where we are, who we are. No matter our fragility, or the slowness of our step. When we walk hand in hand with Him… we can truly walk hand in hand with others.
God With Us.
When we know the immense love of His hand, patting our arm. Reminding us that no matter where we find ourselves… He’s OK with it. He’ll make a way within it…. we can step into encouragement and love with those around us. When you know how much you’re loved… it changes everything.
No matter what the holiday,
 I wish you..
Days of sweet comfort and peace.
Hours of laughter, and a song that stays in your heart for always.
But most of all, I wish you this:
May you know, experience and be overwhelmed by the depths of …
The all-encompassing, extravagant, unconditional love of the God of the Universe.
You are loved, forever and always.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
